GPA Calculator
Add your courses, grades and credit hours to find your semester GPA. You can also add your past GPA to get your cumulative GPA.
How GPA is calculated
Each letter grade is worth grade points. Multiply the grade points of every course by its credit hours, add everything up, then divide by the total credit hours:
For your cumulative GPA, the calculator adds your previous GPA and credits to the same formula.
Grade point scale (4.0)
| Grade | Points | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 4.0 | C+ | 2.3 |
| A- | 3.7 | C | 2.0 |
| B+ | 3.3 | C- | 1.7 |
| B | 3.0 | D+ | 1.3 |
| B- | 2.7 | D | 1.0 |
| D- | 0.7 | F | 0.0 |
Some schools use a slightly different scale, for example no A+ or no minus grades. Check your school's policy if you need an exact number.
Examples
| Courses | Credits | Result |

| Previous 3.2 over 30 credits, now 3.6 over 15 credits | 45 total | 3.33 cumulative |
Frequently asked questions
What is a good GPA?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.0 or higher is generally seen as good, and 3.5 or higher is considered strong. Requirements vary by school and program.
What is the difference between semester and cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA covers only the courses of one term. Cumulative GPA covers all terms together, weighted by credit hours.
Do credit hours matter?
Yes. A grade in a 4 credit course affects your GPA more than the same grade in a 1 credit course.
Does this include weighted or honors GPA?
No. This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. Weighted GPAs add extra points for honors or AP courses and differ by school.
How do I raise my GPA?
Credits you have already earned stay in the average, so a higher grade in courses with more credit hours moves your GPA the most. Try different grades in the calculator to see the effect.
